International Children’s Book Day

April 2 is International Children's Book DayInternational Children’s Book Day, which “is celebrated to inspire a love of reading and to call attention to children’s books.” You can download and print a poster designed by Ashley Bryan and poet Pat Mora to promote the day in your library!

International Children’s Book Day is sponsored each year by a different national section of the International Board on Books for Young People. The United States section (USBBY), which “is a nonprofit organization devoted to building bridges of international understanding through children’s and young adult books,” is the sponsor of the 2013 theme Bookjoy! Around the World.

To learn how other libraries are celebrating, check out the ideas page of the site. There is also a blog, Bookjoy Around the World, where you will find more information and resources for promoting reading.

How are you celebrating at your library? Share your plans in the comments!
